Places to have your engagement shoot

One of the best things I love about living and shooting in Calgary is that it offers a lot of different environments for couples looking for engagement photos.

Here are some of my favorite places:

1. Fish Creek Park.

Fish Creek Park is the second biggest urban park in Canada. So it’s no surprise that it’s a go to spot for photography. There are a lot of spots within the park where you can get creative and make the couple feel like one with the landscape. Whether sunsets along the river bank or sunrise in the many great fields. Or anywhere along the 100km of hiking and biking trails, there are an endless number of ideas we can come up with to make the shoot amazing.

2. Rotary Park

Overlooking downtown Calgary, Rotary park is an awesome spot to photograph couples who love the city vibe. Offering one of the classic viewpoints of downtown, Rotary park is an awesome place to capture some sunset photos with the happy couple. Plus it’s a short walk to the Crescent Heights Lookout point, another classic Calgary viewpoint.

3. Emerald Lake

This one is a ways away from the city but worth it nonetheless. Located 2.5 hours west of Calgary, Emerald lake is a bit of a hidden gem. Not as busy as Banff and Lake Louise, the crowds are Emerald Lake are more manageable. I think Emerald Lake is best viewed in the winter when the lake is frozen and the trees are snow covered. It creates a winter wonderland like no other.

Being as close as we are to the mountains, there are numerous other places I can recommend. Places like Peyto Lake, Moraine Lake, and Pocaterra Ridge all over amazing view points for engagement photos but do require a bit of a hike to get to. Drumheller and the badlands are another option. They provide a different look to the traditional outdoor photos.

No matter what the vibe or look you want to achieve, we can make it work.
